Martial-Forums.com Exclusive Interview with Pete Spratt

Another great interview by Jayson Emo with "The Real Pete Spratt".

Jayson: Hey brother

Pete Spratt: waddup

Jayson: Pete Spratt first off i would like to thank you for your time. how things going for you right now ?

Pete Spratt: Sure thing my man, anytime. Things for me are going quite well at this time. I am very happy with my career and my personal life.

Jayson: Thats good to hear. I guess ill dive right into some questions for our readers at Martial-forums.com. What got you started in martial arts ?

Pete Spratt: I got started in martial arts at an early age because of kung fu movies. I would have to say Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris were some of my early influences and also the old school Kung Fu movies on Kung Fu theatre.

Jayson: We all know your a world champion Kickboxer and a great Jiu jitsu fighter. Are there any other martial arts that peak your interest ?

Pete Spratt: Great at jui-jitsu, are you serious? My jui-jitsu sucks, haha! I have gotten a little better working with Mark Dellagrotte and Kenny Florian while I was at my last training camp. I need a lot of work in that area. But to answer the question, I have a 2 degree blackbelt in American Kenpo. I also enjoy watching the Wushu styles and capoeira.

Jayson: Heh heh your being modest. Your coming off two wins against Matt Brown at the IFF and Jeremy Jackson on the TUF 4 finale. It's my understanding you were going to retire from the UFC has that changed ?

Pete Spratt: Actually I was gonna retire at the end of '06 but the opportunity with TUF 4 kinda changed that situation. I was so tired and fighting wasnt fun for me anymore. I was doing it out of necessity for money and was just taking any fights to keep food in my mouth and bills paid. In 05 I fought 11 times in 4 different countries with 2 trips to turkey, 2 to australia and 1 stop in france and a stop in Japan. I didnt have a team or anything to train with. I went to Seattle to train with Mo' Smith but it was just really me and him trying to get me prepared. I trained at AMC while I was there but really I have basically been solo the past 2 years with my training. Traveling place to place to just get some type of comradery and training with people. In five UFC fights I have had four different teams, trainers and camps. I just didnt have what I needed to continue to fight and be good. I had been very mediocre the past couple of years. I couldnt give it my all, I decided to quit.

Jayson: Man you must keep one hell of a busy schedule. Who in your opinion was your toughest opponent ?

Pete Spratt: My toughest opponent ever was a guy I fought named Doug Carpenter at Saul Soliz's Renegades Show in houston. I hit this guy with everything and he kept coming and pressing. We fought 10 minutes and I beat him on a decision to advance to the finals that night.

Jayson: Your an explosive fighter and i love to watch your matches.Speaking of Explosive matches i saw you the Show Blind date. How did that match end ? Submission or knockout lol ?

Pete Spratt: Thanks, much appreciated. The Blide Date thing ended with a good friendship. Andreina and I are still friends and we actually saw each other about a year later when I was in LA for a fight. She'd doing the acting thing and landed a couple of TV show gigs and some commercials.

Jayson: Thats awesome..Speaking of your acting career you have two movies hitting the shelves in feb. Serum and Repentance. And your working on a third movie now. How hard are you working to break into the big screen ?

Pete Spratt: Actually, Serum releases on January 9th my birthday and Repentance in February. I am just taking the movies as they come building my resume. I am not trying to hit it hard right now because my main focus is my fight career. I will hit the movie scene hard when the time is right.

Jayson: I understand that timing is everything. You also got your debut album REAL. I bet you had a blast doing that. Who all is on your album and where can your fans pick up a copy ? and where can i get an autographed one ?

Pete Spratt: Actually doing the album was a pain, haha. Hood homies dont have a sense of professionalism and punctuality. I have many of my homies from the neighborhood on my album. Mr J. Sweet, Jim G, Lyrical Hustla, Texas Made Playa Lil Rash, Boloc, my cousin Peaches, Young Meeze, Breezy and others. You can visit my site www.therealpetespratt.com and myspace.com/petespratt2 to find out where to get my cd online. All you gotta do is hit me up for an autographed one.

Jayson: Sweet..My friends are gonna jealous when i roll through beating shertown superstar in my truck...

Pete Spratt: lol, shertown superstar is not on my album, that's an older track I put on my myspace page. That was done a couple of years ago.

Jayson: Gah that kills me i love that song ... J sweet right ?

Pete Spratt: That will be available on a compilation album.

Jayson: Aaah thats good

Pete Spratt: J sweet is on the track, as well as TMP and Boloc

Jayson: How did you get the name "The secret Weapon" ?

Pete Spratt: That came about when I first started fighting and people didnt know who I was. I would bring the most exciting fights to the card when I was fighting at a Ring of Fire show. People started to say that must have been the promoters secret weapon.

Jayson: So whats the word on your next fight ? Anything you can share with us ?

Pete Spratt: Nothing I can share but there is an offer on the table for March. Hopefully everything will get finalized this week. I am excited about getting back in there and having a big 2007.

Jayson: I feel 2007 is gonna hold big things for you pete. Now its time for my FIGHT CLUB question. If you could fight any person living or dead who would it be.

Pete Spratt: Hmm..... Honestly I dont know and have never really thought about it. I am at the point in my career right now that I really dont care. It's whatever the powers at the UFC want. I dont have any fantasy match up or anything like that.

Jayson: Ohh come on...You know theres someone out there that you would wanna get in the ring with..Not even Bruce Lee or an old Southeastern University professor ?

Pete Spratt: Lol, now that you mention it, I would love to kick the living **** out of this guy named Mike West. This guy has been a thorn in my side for years, especially when my career started to blow up. The guy and his wife have tried to ruin my name and reputaion for years. He's one of those wanna be big ballerguys. He couldnt make it as a fighter so he decided to start promoting shows and was doing quite well until his last show. I heard some things but I dont know what's true or not all I know is that he spead lies about me to people. Also, this little punk ass dude named Ira. Maybe I will have UFC to spoon feed me this guy. He has talked a lot of trash and he can even fight. He's fought pro, went back to amateur and turned pro again and has yet to win as a pro, lol!

Jayson: Lmao

Jayson: Talking **** to Pete Spratt seems like it would be a bad idea..he must not have seen the Robbie Lawler fight.

Jayson: Lol he didn't want you killing him before he got the money out of him

Pete Spratt: Man the guy came to Janjira Muay Thai when I was training there. He paid my trainer to prepare him for a fight and I showed up early to the gym just to get a piece of his ass. My trainer said no, I'll let Sammy do it. Good thing he did because I would have murdered the guy. He was horrible back then and may still be horrible.

Jayson: Where do you see yourself in five years Pete ?

Pete Spratt: In 5 year's I see myself as a successful businessman. I will be involved with fighting, music, movies!

Jayson: What advice do you have for young MMA fighters trying to make it big in the sport ?

Pete Spratt: My advice is to first make sure this is what you want to do. Secondly, be 110% committed to it and thirdly, get a good team and trainer to train with. Lastly train Muay Thai, BJJ and wrestling.

Jayson: Sound advice. Pete once again man thanks for your time and your words of wisdom. I had a great time interviewing you. Do you have anything you would like to say to your fans at Martial-forums.com and the others around the world ?

Pete Spratt: Thanks for allowing me to share my thoughts and opinions. To my fans, thanks for everything both positive and negative. Go get my album REAL and my DVD's Serum in stores this month and Repentance in stores next month. Thanks again Jayson and Martial-Forums.com. Happy New Year!!!!!
