I have heard rumors that taking in fiber can increase your metabolic rate leading to certain foods having a net calorie loss. The major rumor about this is that it takes more energy to digest celery than it is worth. After a little research on line I have found that there is some opposition to this idea of a 'negative calorie food.' There is also a drink (I believe it has caffeine in it) that claims to burn about 40 calories in one can. It is called Enviga.

What is your take on these 'negative calorie foods' and can I really lose weight by eating a lot of them instead of exercising like some websites propose? (Note: I don't plan to stop working out, but I do want to eat more efficiently when I am not specifically dining for flavor as opposed to sustenance.)
Thankyou Chapel, I appreciate being appreciated however I am hardly worth all that praise.

Now.. This negative calorie business.

To an extent it is true. By eating throughout the day you are 'stoking the fire' so to speak, and things like celery have almost no calories so it would indeed help you to lose weight. However people that do celery diets usually aren't working out as well as they just don't have the energy(read calories) to do it. The aim is to find a happy space in between that.

People have probably noticed that I am wary of eating grains. I believe they are an unnatural part of our diet and is one of the reasons we have an increasingly obese society. Complex carbs are indeed complex, they have alot of energy in a small amount and take a long time to digest. Over the period of time after eating we are receiving constant energy however our energy needs might not match our intake so it will often join our energy stores(read adipose connective tissue(read fat)).

Of course eating no calories isn't hte answer either as the bodies caloric needs will come out of your body. So people doing things like that are burning fat, muscles and connective tissues. But eating too much isn't good either. So stoke the fire with simpler natural calories that will match our current needs, things like most fruit, veg, nuts and natural fats. These will be used and not stored, helping you to lose weight and keep your muscle and have an active lifestyle. As you can see just by not eating your grains and flours and the like you are able to facilitate weight loss.
