| The black (or whatever color) outfit with the face covering, if it was used at all (there is support for both the "yay" and the "nay" sides of this issue), would have been for mass combat (as much as I hate to do this, think of the attack on the village in The Last Samurai) and possibly short night missions. For a normal assassination or spy mission, Ben has it exactly right, a guy wearing a tight black outfit will stand out like a sore thumb.
