Muay Thai in Thailand is like football in the States. On the two occasions that I visited Thailand while in the navy, I went to more than a few bars where they actually had rings built into the center of the place with the bar around it. You could drink and watch the fights, so it was pretty cool. They even allowed challengers to come in from the crowd, and, if they won three matches, they would get a free bar tab. I saw several drunken Americans and Europeans get clobbered by wirey, little Thai fighters. Ahhh, the memories.
