Since always really, he uses some decent ax kicks from the ground. However, a lot of his ground fighting has a very BJJ feel to it. I don't think that he would have been able to incorporate his TKD into ground fighting if he wasn't so familiar with BJJ or similar ground grappling.

If I had to guess, I would say that he probably got his 1st Dan and then stopped training in TKD to train for his pro-MMA career instead.
