It is more complex than that. Body precesses such as producing melanin or Vitamin D take calories and that could contribute to a use in calories which you would not have at night. But the bigger than that is physical motion and blood sugar. (When you blood sugar is low your body goes into a 'starvation mode' and acts more efficiently which is why starvation diets are generally short term solutions to weight loss.)
