Kung Fool

Kung Fool. Actually this could be placed in any section regarding skill.

I often read and hear people state they study Kung Fu. I ask them what kind, Karate, Judo, Tae Kwon Do, Knitting, Pottery, ....the look on their faces is as Master Card would display - "PRICELESS"

In my thread, Kung Fu-The Art of Misnomer

Kung Fu-The Art of Misnomer

I tried to get others views on Kung Fu. In terms of what is it. And per its actual study. In my many years as a martial artist, studying a few arts, and Kung Fu.

I don’t think many truly grasp it.

People tend to think of it as a separate martial art. A quasi religious based one, or even a hardcore traditional art.

People tend to seek out instructors of it, per also based on legend or mythological. And that these very instructors, ether by being misled themselves or looking to mislead others, accept such.

As far as “tradition” goes, per bowing, uniforms, learning a language and or culture, it is a fine way to broaden one’s character. However, this tradition should not include archaic methods and ideas that are based upon hyperbolize conditions.

Every once in awhile, a true practitioner of Chinese Quan Fa comes along, knowing that their art isn’t Kung fu and that Kung Fu is surrounded my too much fantasy. These practitioners have a range of study from stand up striking to ground tactics. They also realize that they have to study other martial arts with other martial artists in order to better themselves and learn more. They know well that a complete study is at hand.

What is your thought on this?
