You aren't really abnormally large, so I wouldn't suggest limiting your options based on size. Also, if you want an art that will give you control, then almost any art will do as well.

There are martial arts places everywhere. Some of them are a bit hard to find though. Also, if a school is in a strip mall or a few stories up in a building, don't count it out. There are lots of great martial arts schools out there that simply don't have good business practice and thus aren't in some glamorous location. The number one thing to remember is: try a free class to get a feel for what it is like. How good was the instruction? How fun was the class? How pushy were they after you took the free intro? After you have tried a few, take your favorite.
