As others have said, check out a few different arts you are interested. Figure out what your goals are. Definitely try out a few free classes at each school/art you are interested in. After that, you will have a much better idea of what you want to do.

Some suggestions that will help improve your experience: look for a good instructor. look at the students in the class, are they nice, will you get along with them? Also, check out the skills of the higher belts, do you want those skills? Does the school spar? Is there contact? is that important to you? Make sure you ask.

These are just some things to look at, but doing this upfront work will save you making a mistake and/or getting discouraged at a school that isnt for you.
