You hit a point I was about to make.

However, as a martial artist ages, they are less likely to get into a physical confrontation. Is this age, or gained confidence/experience?

Here is the kicker, non-martial artists follow the same, they are less likely to get into a physical confrontation.

Martial arts seem to be a tool to not get into fights in the first place.

So, the pop quiz question; even if one doesn't train to fight, how is it that they can not get into physical confrontations?
