In BJJ, the belts go white, blue, purple, brown, black. The average bjj blue belt is 2-4 years depending on factors such as time, age, prior experience. Someone who has been wrestling their whole life will get their blue in 2 years.

I think the only reason bjj blue belts might own other styles black belts is that in order to get the blue, you have to be able to apply all the basic moves against multiple people of different weights/experience who are resisting at 100%. A lot martial arts, mostly the TMAs, dont require that and focus on katas and such. BJJs main focus is sparring at 100% every class.
