Triangle, what your friends do or did doesn't mean you understand exactly what the whole cscope is like. I've had NCOs who went to Ranger School, been to Ranger Bat and even a few with Sniper School and SF Tabs.
The U.S. Army/Marine treains its general soilders in small teams tactics and guerrilla operations from the get go. Most grunts don't even realize this, in SF selection to do the same Battle Drills (small teams stratigic exercises) as you do in basic training. Remember, I actually was an NCO in the infantry 11B

The big picture which you missed is this, the modern hand-to-hand in intended for low intessity conflicts (i.e. peace keeping missions and so forth), the differences in BJJ and Judo aside from positioning and focus is superficial (same base techniques). Traditional Combative programs such as LINE where based off the concepts of battlefield and had almost the same techniques as found in Modern Combatives training, the difference is not in techniques but training focus...
