It would be asking for trouble, but I don't really see it as a problem other than that. The police would look and wonder. They may even stop you and ask what you're doing with it. Thugs would simply look and laugh, but I doubt any would attempt anything more than that. Although, it IS a crime in at least one state to carry a concealed weapon longer than 6 feet.
But if you want to carry a sword in America (for the time being) the get your groove on big guy, and go carry it around.
