In order to really make sure you have the armbard fully secured, there are a few key elements that need to be executed correctly.

- Always make sure you are attacking the elbow at it's correct angle. You should have the opponents hand with his thumb facing away from your chest. It would be easy to say "thumb towards the ceiling" but that only works when you are executing with your back on the ground.

- Control the wrist/hand in order to ensure that you can accomplish point # 1. But I always suggest not doing this until you have full control of the arm and are ready to straighten out.

- You need one leg over his head and that leg should be bent not straight. This leg should be attemptint to squeeze his head between your heel and your buttocks. Keep the foot on the ground or at least pushing toward the ground HARD.

- The other leg's location is not as critical, however you should be trying to get that knee as close to the other knee as possible. This is your "clamp". If the foot is on the other side of his body (same as the leg over the head) you should also be trying to bring that heel to your buttocks.

- Control his whole arm from at least the elbow until you are ready to extend (sit back if from the top position). When you do sit back, do not go flat...bring his arm with you and start extending your hips forward LONG before your back hits the ground.

I will see if I can find a good video of this with some of the finer details made obvious.
