It's possible, but I would think that they added them to make it flashier for competition purposes. Impressive though no matter why they did it.

Actually, all that matters is that their sensei and the judges like it. My opinions are not really relevant.
[quote=Captain_fantastic;82767]What i do know is that they performed that kata and bunkai at the British open and got gold which means they will represent Britain in the European champs next year or they would have if they were not too young

Minimum age is 14 so the 2nd placed team will go.

Unfortunate, but with adversity comes character.

They will be better off for it and hopefully will come back and do it again when they are old enough. If they're that good, they should have no problems. I saw a few mistakes (or differences), but they should be able to do it.

Also taking your height into consideration as it has to be harder for a taller person to perform kata as originally it was made for shall we say smaller people. |
Actually, I'll help you out a bit here. If you go to my website, and click on the "Our Style" link, you can see the lineage of our system. Our system looks similar to Shotokan because they have very similar roots. Toyama and Funokoshi were the same "rank" and were both granted the title of "Protege" under Itosu. Now, Toyama trained under Itosu after Funokoshi had left to do his own thing. Our system also has a lot of Chinese influence in it as well. Yes, it is difficult at 6'4" to compete in tournaments against smaller people doing the same kata, but....I just have to get deeper in my stances. At least thats what my instructor (who is 5'3") told me. LOL I haven't decided whether or not to ad more kata to my youtube yet. I probably will, but it may be a little while.
