Injuries

Was thinking about starting at a school near me. After reading online, it seems this art has a high injury rate. is this true?

Welcome to the forums!

What style/art are you referring to?

The Yoseikan Aikido style. And actually I just looked up regular Aikido, so being new, I know there are differences, but I figured they are probably very similar. I am still going to give it a try though but i figured it would be good to get some thoughts/opinions...

Martial Arts is a contact sport (sport used loosely). You will probably get hurt at some point, but if your instructors are decent it won't be major and your will get right back onto your feet.

I guess my concern was that this sport and Judo involve lots of thowing, which seems to have higher rates of injuries than other arts. Maybe they dont, it just seems that way from what i have read and would be interested in those that have practiced.

Throws are common in many martial arts, not just Aikido or Judo.

Injuries will depend entirely upon the training of the school. The two things will be if they train the students to fall correctly and if they actually do full power throws. Also the equipment the school has will help. Are there mats to practice on? Does the instructor gradually bring the students along or will he throw them hard to show he's the man?

MArtial arts deal with the knowledge and application of violence. Even with the best of circumstances and teachers you run the risk of being injured. Its part of what we do.
