WHAT? Wish you had posted this earlier before I read the whole Dim Mak thread, would've saved me a lot of time since I've just read the Chin Na thread.
So with all the accusations of trolls round here, just wanted to say, don't eat me. Wait for the next goat to come across, he's much bigger and tastier.
Seriously though. From what I just read I kinda got the impression that Chin Na was grappling technique while Dim Mak was pressure point striking and their relationship was one of compatability as opposed to being one and the same thing.

I believe Cung Le's Sifu was Shawn Liu, a San Shou coach, who originally trained at Shaolin. Apparently, they had some sort of falling out and Cung Le doesn't mention him. San Shou is CMA, although a recent innovation.
Dim Mak is not chin-na, what would ever give you that impression?
BUT, chin-na contains dim-mak as one of its ingredients. Sealing the breath-Bai-Hei, Misplacing the Bone-Chaw Guat, and dividing the muscle-Funn Gun are the other three.

Isn't that the one in the Stephen Chow movie where once touch would turn all your bones into dust?

LOL, it may be. Steven Chow has a habit of putting real terms in his comedies. I just saw Fists of Fury something or other, forgot the rest of the title, and they used the term,"Yat Dahm, Yee Lik, Sam Gung-Fu", but in a funny way.

I trained Dim Mak from a Chinese Chef. If his Dim Mak didn't kill you his Dim Sums sure would.

you all seem to be focusing on one thing that you don't believe about dim mak, and assuming everything else is just as false. The fact is that it would be possible to have a martial art that focused on only giving small amounts of pressure to certain points on the body that have larger effects, and Dim Mak is supposed to be that.

dim mak is not a separate art, but simply one aspect of Chinese Martial Arts.It cannot be simply a separate art because simply knowing the points is not enough. You must know not only where to strike, but HOW to strike. You need to develop power generation, and skill and technique to apply the strike. You need a delivery system.
It is not a quick fix, or a simple soulution. It is simply one aspect of your training.

You guys watch waay too much TV, Movies, and believe all the media hype.
Do a little research, and think every once in awhile.

Well to understand that as true it would have to be confirmed that Dim Mak is not even a martial art, but a study of the body's weak points. Then one could assume that it is only a form of medical study. Never have I heard Dim Mak only being the knowledge of pressure points, but it is always concerned with the act of utilizing these for one's advantage in combat. Therefore it is an art, it is a style, and it is a martial art, no matter any of the semantics that you seem so happy to embrace.

actually, you are correct. It is a form of medical study. TCM practitioners who practice an-ma, tui-na, and dit-da medicine often refer to the utilizing of points as dim-mak. Dim, means to point, and mak is the vital point. It is not just used for combat.
(although it can be used to combat pain)
BTW- my Sifu Chao-Hung is a dit da yee-meaning, a doctor who specializes in trauma. He also studied under Gen Duk-Hoi.

"Never have I heard Dim Mak only being the knowledge of pressure points, but it is always concerned with the act of utilizing these for one's advantage in combat. Therefore it is an art, it is a style, and it is a martial art, no matter any of the semantics that you seem so happy to embrace."

Just because you never heard it used in this way, and only heard it used when referring to martial arts, does not prove anything other than the fact that you simply have not been exposed to enough knowledgable people.

Well then, to convince me of your point, could you please give me some evidence? Otherwise I have no reason except your testimony that it is only used for medical study.
