Shaolin vs. TKD
for those who haven't seen this vid, and i bet all of you have, i kinda like it because it actually shows a monk fighting.
what do you guys think?
also, just to let you all know who are new to the forums, I am a "it's the fighter not the art" type of guy so i am not biased here.
BTW would that fancy 540 have worked?

I found this when I was researching shaolin (spelling?) kung fu. I think its pretty cool. He destroys the TKD guy IMHO. Others will tell you it was set up... But I dont believe so. I am why would you go through all that just for it to be set up... I think its authentic.
Its probably one of my fav shaolin kung fu video's. (There is another thats pretty cool I will see if I can find it later)

EXACTLY! Monks do not relish or condone conflict of any sort.
Lies, all lies... Monks are the most destructive people I've ever heard of... They should all be slain!!... But on a serious note, I agree he probably isnt a "monk" in the fashion one would expect. However Shaolin Monks now a days do do demonstrations for money. So who says this isnt just a demonstration of what they've been practicing?

that is true, except the destructive part =P, but he probably isn't one of super dedicated monk. Plus, i think that 540 would have worked, if that tkd guy didn't move back... would've hurt real bad...
plus, when the tkd guy does the front kicks, what is he aiming to hit? i assume groin isn't allowed. would it be the legs therefore being not really front kicks?

Its hard to know what another person is thinking, but its very possible he was just kicking to make the monk move into another position, or make the monk make a mistake. /shrug
that actaully was set up, it was showing the diffrence in kicking between the two styles.

yes because i don't think that is true, unless both of them were willing to get hurt by one another. Did you see the way they kicked? didn't seem set up to me

i've seen preformers get close to hurting each other all the time its the only way to make it good. and show it with a person there, like good wushu preformers do all the time
