The San Shou now days is mostly just kickboxing techniques. The only chuan fa is are the throws.

An hour?! Not that I can't do it, but sheesh, the boredom! LOL

I am really bad with names and now I'm on a med that one of the side effects can be forgetfullness Do you know how mad a wife can get when you forget her mother's name, even for a moment? It makes for a great excuse for why I didn't do the dishes though

Did you forget her name on "Mother's Day" as well?

San shou isn't kickboxing. You can wrestle for take downs, throws, and employ every sweep in your arsenal. Muay Thai won't let you do that; neither will Euro/American kickboxing. The only thing I don't like about san shou is that you can't use wrist locks because of the gloves, so that takes out at least half of my best techniques.

Also, it isn't realistic, because you can't bite, break someone's wrist, sock them in the groin, or rip their ear off when they go for a throw.

If you are in a clinch, the ref will break you, so no wrestling in that manner. There are sweeps and throws, hence my comment about that being where you'll see the chuan fa. San Shou is a sport with rules. No one claimed it was realistic street fighting.

Yeah but dude, you're not allowed to do any of those things in other martial arts competition-like-sport-type-thing. I mean it's simulation combat not actual fight to the death combat. It's only meant to be realistic to some extent.

groin strikes, and biting wont solve all your problems. this has been said many times on this forum. rip their ear off? are you kidding me?

Unless you're into disturbed forms of entertainment, that would be a massive problem.

Well if somebody took your jewelery off, I doubt you'll be in any form to fight, so yeah it is effective, but I doubt your everyday warrior will drop to his knees and perform such tactics. But biting ears, didn't Mike Tyson lose that fight even though he bit a bit off... Evan... Hollie... Field... Something's ear? Biting isn't really something that can end a fight neither, groin strikes maybe. But would you want somebody to do these things in an simulation combat like sanshou or MMA.

no of course they shouldnt be allowed in competition, but they would really be effective in competiton in my opinion. a trained fighter will see you groing strike coming, and block it, or grap your leg, when you try and kick them there.
if someone were attacking you and you kicked them there it may end the situation it may not. these types of strikes are as effective as any other type of strike. a misconcetion is that tey are the only things needed because they will all work.

if someone is trying to take your purse, a groin strike will probably stop them. its all situational.

if someone bit me if i were attacking them id probably try and do even more harm than i intended.

Neither is Sport MMA, but those guys hurt just like any others in other competitions set with rules.

No, but a .357 mag can do it with ease.

He may think that because it is from China, it isn't a sport.
