With China becoming more and more capitalist, it was just a matter of time before someone in China capitalized on the Shaolin name. While I think by association it cheapons Shaolin kung fu, I can't really blame anyone for taking advantage of an already world wide known name. People all over the world have been using the name Shaolin to promote themselves and thier product when there was absolutely no link. Guess its about time the temple took advantage of its' own name.

Now Lun you can't go and blame evil western capitalistic ideals on this one. Shaolin Temple has been nothing more then a tourist attraction ever since the last burning and ultimate reopening of the temple. Todays monks are allowed to eat meat and marry it's not the shaolin temple from the movies. It was reopened by the government to bolster tourism. It's not like over here the catholic church makes Jesus action figures just to make a buck.

LOL I never said it was evil Its just the way free market works. Your absolutely right about today's Shaolin being a tourist trap. Of course if it was anything like the old Shaolin Temple the communist government would just shut it down again.

If it was anything like the "Old Shaolin temple", people would not even know its existence outside of Buddhism and the monks would still be practicing Ch'an/Ch'en and minding their own business instead of mining for business.
