How many different styles of Tai Chi are there?

Noticed couple of posts regarding their style of Tai Chi.

Just wondering how many different ones there are in Tai Chi.

Hello NinjaMaster,

hard to tell. There are a lot of styles in Taijiquan.
Most known are the five family styles:

Chen-style
Yang-style
Wu-style
Sun-style
Wu(Hao)-style

Chen was the first family.
Yang learned from them.
Wu and Wu(Hao) learned from the Yang-family.
Sun learned from the Wu(Hao)-family.

Greetings

Martin

Most Chinese martial arts are "family affairs"

Good information and a very well put together video. My only real experience with tai chi was watching hundreds of elderly Chinese people doing the exact same form early in the mornings in Victoria Park in Hong Kong. I think the forms are beautiful when done correctly.

But it is hard to "nail down" actual lineages......
