Idk about 4000 years. I don't think kung fu really became an organised art til about two millenia ago; that may be an early estimate.

define "the ancient art of kung fu"
people in china were practicing SOME form of martial arts 4000 years ago
does it bear any resemblance to what is practiced today? doubtful
It's like technology. Back in the day it was a huge room-sized machine that only did simple mathematical operations, and today it's a small portable object that plays movies. Yet, either way, we call it a computer.
Kung fu has been created and changed trough centuries... When the name was created, it probably had some shape of a martial art. It changed, but we can't it's that old because someone, in unknown past, started creating a fighting art, and the name kung fu came later. But the ones who said kung fu for the first time (translation-art of a human), also said it's very old, even though the name didn't exist before some aspects of their art did.
So we can't guess that easily now can we? That's just a guess I suppose...

Well the roots of the martial art, well really the birth of the martial art, was somewhat 4,000 years ago. But, from what I heard (I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly )modern kung fu was founded when four old men escaped from a burning temple in the 1600's; these are the four elder styles that are the basis of the modern art.
Now, I would look into this, but I think I am pretty close to the truth (maybe )
it was actually created in the future by han solo and luke skywalker. they went back in time 4000 years ago in a delorean and taught ancient monks secret moves that require intense chi. it was these secret moves that are the basis for the secret ninja society that we hear about today.

Artist, you are getting Shaolin chuan fa and wing chun confused...as well as the dates. Mid 1600's is when Wing Chun was created and as a direct result of its' creation and anti-Ming activities by Shaolin, the temple was destroyed. The FIVE elders are also of this same period and though unproven, many systems of kung fu claim thier lineage to them, including many wing chun systems. If memory serves right, the northern Shaolin temple was built in the late 1300's, but I could be wrong about that. Like most societies, China had martial arts long before then.

They didn't go back in time as their events take place "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...". I mean seriously, did you even see Star Wars?
