Oh no, it's not just to elect a certain person. It's being to the forefront to affect policy, make sure people Like Jerimiah Wright and Jesse Jackson have a platform to stand on, and keeps liberals in business with certain special interest groups so they have their talking points.
Racism isn't a dead issue of course. There will always be racism, just as there will always be sexism and there will always be groups of people who distrust people of other religions, race, gender, sexuality, etc. And the fact is, race baiters like Wright and Jackson and Sharpton wouldn't have it any other way. What would they do without it?

I agree that Wright, Jackson, and Sharpton take the race thing way to far. They use it as a platform to ask for the world in exchange for nothing. I don't think Obama is using the race card like these others are and only addressed it when he had no other choice polically. The speach he gave wasn't a "Woe is us cause we're black" thing either.
I think its interesting how you bring up the left wing hacks to represent liberals. That would be like me saying all conservatives are like Ann Coultier. There are idiots who go too far and those idiots can lean left or right...its called an extremist.

Since I think liberal and conservative is like tweedle dee and tweedle dumb, it wouldn't matter to me either way.
The state of American politics just keeps getting worse and worse. I really wish we would amend the constitution so that it is illegal to be a career politician. I mean, why not put term limits on every office and position in federal government to insure you don't get people like our current congressmen, senators, and presidential candidates who (despite already being well-off) make fortunes from 'serving the people'?
Sounds like a "don't trust anyone over 30" idea to me.
To be fair, with the skills/time/effort that it takes to be a successful politician, you could probably do better than the $400,000 a year +benefits that the President gets. Keep in mind the massive amount of money that a person needs to raise just to stay in office.
Nah, they make their most money, WHEN they are in office.....
Nope. Its when they leave and become 'consultants' or lobbyists or the like that they get the payoff for the influence and connections they've built up.

You are both wrong.
Being related to a few politicians, they got their money in office. As their office was able to get them money deals and many under-table stuff. (Halliburton) This is why wealthy people try so hard to get a political office. Why else would they want a office/job that pays them far lss then what they are making out of office.
Obviously, you both dont know what you are talking about.

Odd that you would feel so strongly about this as the fact that pols make their big payday after leaving office is pretty well known, but you believe what you like.

Maybe the politicians you are related to are the exception. Rich people want high level elected offfice for the power and contacts it brings. While some make money while they are in office, many more make it after they leave office. Once they leave office they aren't bound by those stuffy ethics laws. They can start using thier previous contacts as lobbyist. Being a lobbyist is where the money is. I'm suprised you don't know this 47MM, considering just a little reading would show it. Its risky for politicians to make too much money under the table while in office, but not when they become lobbyist.

Lobbyist dont make as much as a politician in office. They are not bound my ethics laws in office, because while in office, they have power. Power to "escape much".
Their previous contacts will disasscoiate themselves, esp when the politician did some "unfavorable" stuff while in office.
It is about being in the "spotlight". If you are the hotspot, the deals and money flow in. Once out of the "light-hot spot', they trickle.
I believe that you dont really know what you are talking about.

I'm starting to think that you are just being ridiculous for the sake of being ridiculous.
