So if nobody knows, Obama said that people in Pennsylvania are bitter because of the economy, and as a result they turn to their guns and religion.
Honestly I think he's right. I think people in that state are frustrated with the loses they have suffered economically and as a result they turn to what makes them happy. I imagine if I was a hard working Christian that liked to hunt, with a wife and 3 kids, a retirement plan, and decent health care plan for all of them, then one day I lost it all. ...On Friday I would go to the bar, get drunk and say, "Oh well, what can you do?" On Saturday I would go hunting to clear my head and wonder how I'm gonna get a new job, and on Sunday I would go to church because I want god to help me out in my time of need.Is it a bad thing? No it's not. The thing that is bad, is when people decide to live in their own worlds and ignore thinking about how to solve the real problems in their lives, imagining that these problems will solve themselves.

Oh man, I hope I don't misquote him, but basically he sad that people in small towns in bad economies tend to not think about the long term solutions to their problems. As a result they cling to the only things they know bring them joy and as a result of that, being that guns, religion and a few forms of hate(towards immigrants) none of their problems get solved.
I put a link to what was said exactly. The link is actually Obama talking if no one knows.

He was speaking "off record" to a bunch of elitist, far leftist liberals in San Fransisco basically sounds like he looks down on small town people at least when in the company of "progressives" like he was speaking to. I don't like him anyway and am voting for McCain so he doesn't win or lose anything with me either way.
He could be saying that to try and "win that state"
Yeah, thats a given. You never really know what they are gonna do until they are in office.

You actually didn't answer the question. I don't care how it sounded, I wanted to know if you thought his statement was completely false.

You didn't ask a question, you made a statement.
I think it's false. I am a gun owner because i believe in the 2nd amendment and I believe in the right to defend myself not because i am bitter over some economic nonsense. I don't "cling to religion" either way. His remarks about how people here feel about immigrants and people "different than them" well, my wife is an immigrant from Europe and I know we had to go through quite a bit of red tape and spend a whole lot of money and go through a lot of flaming hurdles for her to stay here and when someone just skips across the boarder thinking they are entitled to something for free, well that makes me bitter, but then again, I am sure for me to say anything about it in Obama's mind would somehow be considered "intolerant"
You got me on the question, I assumed it was implied.

Well you could be that one guy, as a resident of PA your telling me that you don't see any of what Obama talked about in his speech. I live in Nevada and I see it every other day(Extremely more jobs here than there). I have many relatives in Pennsylvania and they were offended by what Obama said, but did see truth in it. I do see the hate thing as being a little extreme, but I still see it, and I can't see how people can walk around saying it doesn't happen, because if didn't and nobody ever turned a blind eye to what was going on then we wouldn't have gotten where we are in the first place.
It is an essential part of the human experience, not the opiate of the masses, Karl
Pretty simple. If you gave every 'small town' person a better job, a new car, a guarantee that their job won't go overseas, a raise, or a bigger house would they denounce their religion and throw away their guns? No, they would not. The Obama-types who look down their noses at regular folks just don't ****in' get it.
The state of American politics just keeps getting worse and worse. I really wish we would amend the constitution so that it is illegal to be a career politician. I mean, why not put term limits on every office and position in federal government to insure you don't get people like our current congressmen, senators, and presidential candidates who (despite already being well-off) make fortunes from 'serving the people'?

No, what I see and hear is some far left senator trying to politicize an issue he knows nothing about.
If you were talking about how Obama feels there is racism towards immigrants and such, the thing to remember is politicians create those problems themselves. Like i mentioned earlier, my wife didn't just jump a fence to get in here and if she did, she would expect to be deported if she would have been caught. The double standards in this country start angering people, tax breaks for companies that hire minorities, racial quotas, etc, and then to have people constantly scream racism on top of that, well of course some people will get angry and those liberals in Washington know that all too well, although racism is something that until this election year they always liked to have around to help keep them in power.

I'm a liberal. Yep, I said said it. A couple of definitions from a dictionary of liberal...
1. favorable to progress or reform, as in political or religious affairs. 2. free from prejudice or bigotry; tolerant: a liberal attitude toward foreigners.
3. open-minded or tolerant, esp. free of or not bound by traditional or conventional ideas, values, etc. 4. of, pertaining to, or befitting a freeman.
I'm also a fiscal conservative. Being a liberal isn't necessary a bad thing, no more than being conservative is a bad thing.
Look at the politics of the nation and I think you can see that Obama's comments have [i]some[i] merit, though they were worded very badly. People are frustrated with our government. The comments in this tree alone refelect that. It isn't a right wing or left wing, liberal or conservative, Rpublican or Democrat thing. When people don't know what to do about a situation they tend to fall back upon things they are most comfortable with, its human nature.
As far as racism, it has been in politics and this country since the beginning of this country. If you think it is a dead issue that is being brought bqack into exsistance just to elect a certain man, you should pull your head outta the sand.
