Back from Patrol
After being on patrol throughout Europe and Africa in the medeterainian and black sea for 3months, I'm finally back home as of today. Visited a lot of cool places. Medira, and the Azores(two islands owned by Portugal) Cape Verde (an island owned by Afirca, off of Africas west coast), Algers, Algeria(in North Africa) Crete(island owned my Greece), Rota Spain, Varna Bulgaria, and Geata Itally.
It was cool that I was able to see all these places. It was the first Patrol and probally only patrol I'll have like that...mainly because the Coast Guard usually patrol in domestic waters, and through out the carribean and sometimes canada, which I've seen a lot of that already. we were only in that area this time for training purpouse with other countries. The High light for me was seeing capoeira done in the streets of Cape Verde. That was awsome!!!
I didn't know the coast guards get to patrol all the way to Africa but it sounds like a trip of a lifetime. Good to have to back on US soil and hope you get to do things you couldn't do on ship, like watch UFC live.

We usually don't, as I said, we were only there to help in trianing their navies and coast guards. And to participate in an anual training exercise. It was basically to stregnthen relations. Anyway, it was an experience. Great to be back though, and now time to catch up on ufc, and also this final fu I was hearing about

photos from patrol
Here is a site to check out photos from the patrol, and all the stuff we did. I think we are the second listing on this page. CGC Northland. Check out all the weeks. I think 12 weeks are currently posted. You'll see me in a few of the pics...however you can see and read about some of the stuff we did.
Better yet, I'll just post the pages individually so you can just go stragiht to the pages instead of trying to find them!
Nice to have you back. I haven't gone through all the links you provided, but that is a great little synapsys of what went on with some great pictures of the crew and the activities that went on. Thanks for doing what you do - that goes out to all our service men and women! You guys are the greatest!
Thanks for sharing with us. Kinda puts some things back into perspective for me.

yes they are very cool places, But its not Medira, it's Madeira and its an island or the archipelago of Madeira and Azores its an Archipelago with nine islands and yes they are from Portugal
Welcome back, BD. One of the things I miss most about being in the navy is visiting all those exotic places, but I've never been to any of those ports you saw. I did, however, visit Vladivostok, Russia with a Coast Guard cutter, so I knew you guys occasionally patrolled in foreign waters. Nice pics, too.

If you wanted to see places like that, you should have gone Navy. Bigger better ships with bigger better guns. LOL
I have a question....In the week 2 link, the last pic shows the crew on the fantail of the ship....If everyone looks closely, the ship IS UNDERWAY!! If the crew is on the fantail and in the pic, WHO'S DRIVING THE SHIP!????? LOL

I can answer that one, Black Dragon. When I was in the navy, we always just tied the wheel off with a length of line to keep the course straight and put a cement block on the accelerator pedal.

Baloney! You're not much older than I am, and I was in when I was 17. They didn't allow cement blocks on the ships then!

I think that none of you have been in the navy, because in almost all of the ships, at leats in Portugal, they have something that I think that its called automatic pilot, in that thing we can trace the route and let it go
