I was 12 almost 13 When I strated ( I am almost 16 now. My Techer was and still is Grand Master Robert K. Decker. The first thing that I can think of is walking in and seeing A young man performing his pattern.
I got really scared when I walked in and told my mom I did not want to do it. She looked at me with a smile and said yes you are. Boy am I gald she did! I was reall impressed by all the respect the students gave not only the black belts but
everyone they talked to. I sighed up for my first class and fell in love with it. Now everyone there is like family. There is so much more that I felt that night I just dont know how to put it in to words..
Good for you-stick with it,,,,dont be swayed by all others outside/apart.

First started kung fu, my friend got me a 4 week free card, I got one not-counting private introductory class where the instructor showed me what was happening. She said that no body compares themselves to anyone else. I walked in the first class I felt I was really standing out, mostly because I didn't have a uniform yet . Now I feel really like I belong and have been doing it for a while.

My father told me i was'nt allowed to train so naturaly i started to. First by reading book after book after book, then i started to learn Lao Gaar Kung Fu behind his back for about a year by that time i think he realised it was to late to stop me and i've been studying MA ever since.
that is awesome... you are really dedicated... why did you dad not want you to do it? did he have a bad experience?
No he never learned any MA which may have been part of the problem, but his reasoning was that i was a violent kid and he thought that it would make me worse, turns out it had the reverse effect.

I was about 11 or 12 when I first started training I think it was all the bruce lee movies I watched with my brother when I was younger that took my intrest so I found a dojo that was close to my school and started to train, it didn't take long for me to get realy into it. I started to make freinds with a lot of other students that i was training with and a few even went to school with me that I didn't realize trained untill I trained with them. I
was pretty serious in my training for a few years then once in high
school I started to stray, party work laziness then stopped I just stopped training. now 20 years later I stopped making excuses and am right back where I left off and I plan on training as long as my body and mind allow. What I keep thinking about lately is that if I had kept training when I was younger where I would be now.

My chemistry teacher (who took the squash group) told me I was too crap at squash and chucked me out. I didn't want to do rugby as I was small, so I was looking for an indoor sport to do in our school sports afternoon. Spent one afternoon wandering around looking for inspiration... thought gym looked unbelievably boring ... and noticed some of my mates beating seven bells out of each other. And went straight up to the sensei, now a good friend, and asked to join. Never looked back and quickly went from doing 1 hour a week u to six as is now. My days of not being sporty are over, and those big rugby guys stopped picking on smaller people soon after I started Judo.
I had always wanted to do an MA as my Grandfather was a Royal Marine and had been teaching me what he called "dirty tricks" fighting (pressure points and similar) since I was about 6, and my great grandfather taught Jujutsu and unarmed combat to the Royal Marines. They are my inspiration, every time I need to find that little extra determination, I ask myself what they would do.

Was that from a book also?

I was involved in body building, but the excess of protein almost killed my kidneys, so a Dr. told me that I needed to stop training that way (I won 50 pounds of muscle in about 4 years), so I changed to taekwondo, now I don't take those excessives amounts of protein (I used to take 1/4 pound each day, plus creatine monohydrate, plus vitamins, plus calcium, plus l carnitine, plus aminoacids, plus protein bars, plus carbo drinks, plus xanedrine, plus...), I lost some weight and a lot of muscle, but I feel much better, I won't quit MA till I get sick again (now I only take creatine monohydrate, l carnitine and vitamins).
And you had learned the hard way, and are at least the wiser (hoping that you didnt damage those kidneys).
"There's three kind of people in the world: the wise, those who can learn from other's mistakes, the smarts, those who can learn from self mistakes, and the dumbs, who simply cannot learn." (I don't know who said that, but is an interesting quote, and I like to think I'm smart).
I have my kidneys clean now, and I drink over a gallon of pure water daily to keep them that way.
