My competition record from my adult life is a 1st, a 2nd, and 2 DQs (one for 'excessive force', one for 'striking non-target areas'). Real life, only one self-defense experience in high school. Went like this: Kid threatens me with a small knife in a bathroom. He starts bringing it closer to me. I grabbed his arm and pushed his head into a mirror (which surprisingly did not break). I then took that opportunity to get away because I knew if I made it into the hallway I would be safe.

I have no idea how many competition matches I've had. I've done point sparring and continious contact mstches. Won some and lost some...have no idea what my record was either. It didn't matter to me and usually no money was involved, so I didn't keep track. I've done some san da to test myself, but it wasn't in competition.
The last 5 years I've had two street altercations. Sometimes it can't be avoided in my neighborhood. Fortunately I walked away from both in better condition than my attackers.
I fought a lot in high school and right after high school, but can't really count those cause they weren't serious... just guys being guys...usually drunk guys.
I think I had like 11 matches in a span of 3 years in various tournaments and I'm happy to say my record was 11-0. (none of it was in a blackbelt division so it's hard to say whether I was good or others weren't as experienced...)

As for street fights, I can't count how many I was in during high school. Went to a very rough school, and it was either fight or be bullied constantly.
In competition, I did point sparring in two tournaments as a teenager in the beginner and then intermediate Mississippi Karate Association divisions. Didn't place in either.
I competed again in full contact kumite in two International Tohgi Karate-Do Association tournaments in Japan in 1991 and 1992. I didn't place in the first one but earned second place in my division in the second tournament. Those competitions were no-pads matches, which was good practice for the numerous bar fights I got pulled into while in the military. In 1993, I competed in the Southwest Alabama Open Karate Championships in Mobile and placed second in point sparring. This year I have returned to competition and have competed in three Alabama Karate Circuit tournaments. I've received second place each time in point sparring. In continuous fighting, I've placed first twice and second once. For point sparring, we wear hand and foot pads as well as head gear. For continuous fighting we wear head gear, foot pads, and 10 ounce boxing gloves.
I have no special way that I prepare for fights. I train all the time, so I feel prepared every day.

Been in more fights than I can count when I was younger and dumber. had a problem with my temper back then. So far in BJJ I am 3W-3L.
Had about a dozen kickboxing matches. Never did any tournament fighting in Tang Soo Do. I trained in boxing but never competed in it, I only took it to supplement my kick boxing.
I remeber one incident in particular when I was at a bar about two weeks before a scheduled kickboxing match and I got into a style vs. style argument with a guy who claimed kickboxing was no match for "streetfighting". After awhile, he stooped to insult, so we agreed to take it outside. My style won.

dont really remember my record for tournaments. memorable ones are winning the gold medal for tkd in Puerto Rico when i was a teen at junior olympics. got on the front page of the local newspaper in the Virgin Islands for that one.
my first tournament i attented when i started training in TKD, which was a open Karate/ Juijitsu tournament. i remember that one well cause knocked out my first oponent an he needed medical attention. been in alotta tournaments both TKD and open to other styles. a little more recently, was on the TKD competition team in Korea before i transfered. only fought in one tournament though cause i used to go to the field an pull missions alot.
competing in Mainland America doesnt interest me much cause we used to beat the crap out of them when they came to the Caribbean for tournaments. but i might get back into it
grew up in different enviroments and done the street thing so theres lots of fights involved in that.
got into some fights when i was in Job Corps either from prejudiced mainlanders or people from other styles/schools. this happened in high school too an was one of the reasons i got kicked out.
had a very fair share of bar and club fights in places like Japan, Okinawa, Korea, Thailand, Diego Garcia (British owned Island), and Hawaii
the competition ones were chest pads, head gear an shins optional for TKD, some of the open ones were no protector gear besides optional foot an shin pads an headgear.

I hear ya, Shinobi. Bar fights in the clubs in Tokyo usually turned into small riots pitting one nationality against another. Observed one fight in Okinawa that broke up the 'banana lady's' show. My own personal worst fight was a scrap in a club called 'Shock' in Penang, Malaysia. Twenty guys off of my ship got into it with about 300 angry Chinese-Malays. Good times.

Okay, I didn't get a chance to read through all the posts, sorry, I'll try to get to them later (limited internet access)
Anyway, here it goes:
I couldn't possibly count the number of fights and/or competitions I've been in, but I'll say this, when I was younger I attended a very rough school that turned a blind eye to violence in the school and I was a very independant young female who did NOT like to be touched!!! So, to say the least I was always in a scrap with some rather rough boys.. luckly being a small female, they never saw it coming (or if they did they certainly were unable to stop it) so I was farely unscathed throughout my young school life, I transfered to another (much better) school during high school were I was well known for teaching martial arts, so I was never bothered and had a very productive school life As an adult (21yrs and up) I refrained from fights (not getting goated in so easily) due to being a responsible parent at age 22, but I will admit to unfortunately being in circumstances that required me to fight and again, I was pretty much unscathed, though I can not say the same for the man who brought forth the situation.
Competitions: When I was 6 years old (approx) I competed in small combined club competitions and usally won, but it wasing until I was around age 11 (i think)that I started competiting in large martial arts tournaments.. and usually won 1st or 2nd place (in both forms and sparring), and from age 14 through 20yrs old I held 1st Place in the Top Ten Women's Black Belt Division for the USTA/ITA for both Sparring (point sparing, medium to hard contact black belt adults division) and in Forms. I competited during my pregnancy with my first son and recieved 2nd place forms and weapons. I resumed competition after having my son too soon for my body to heal and regain calcium and unfortunately tore my acl and fractured my leg (my pivoting leg) doing a spin hook kick that atleast took the head gear off my opponent and had to take a season off to recoop. I started back competiting in open tournaments again and held Alabama State Champ in 2005 for forms, weapons and sparring, and was unable to compete the past 2 years due to moving, etc, but now I'm back at it again, though pregnant (if only in forms and weapons) I will take some time to train after having my number 2 child and hopefully mid season next year I'll be able to fight, grapple and more
