Ummm, technically arent fighters doing the same thing? They find other people that knowingly want to test their skills and they go at it.

While I obviously dont condone picking fights with random people, I frown upon it because it isnt much of a test of skill. I mean yes the avg guy can get a lucky punch in (lets not beat this subject to death been there done that), but a trained martial artist should feel like only another TRAINED martial artist can truly test his worth.

I have no interest in fighting people that I'm pretty sure cant beat me. But people that make me think I'll lose or barely win intrigue me greatly.

By the way...TFG that was TMI .

So, a trained martial artist should kid himself?

If you spend 20 hours a week training then you should be a superior fighter than someone who say spends 20 hours a week playing video games. And of course we werent talking about avg guy with his pals, weapons, or anything like that.

I mean would you bet against GSP if he was facing joe blow? I dont think so.

I'm sorry if you feel like youve been wasting your time doing whatever it is you do.

Then why in the world do people train if anyone can beat anyone? I swear you guys baffle me.

Yes its possible that any can beat anyone. But the odds of such an occurence are slim to none. The whole point is to increase your odds of winning as much possible. If youre fighting someone that has only been decreasing their odds with their lifestyle then for the sake of argument they have a ****ty chance of winning the fight.

I should go fight 5 yr olds if anyone can beat anyone. Maybe old ladies too. Give me a break. There are weight classes and the like for a reason to make fights kind of fair.

And damnint (Ha I did it again I meant TFG) it took me a second but I finally got where that quote came from and adding cubicle to it made it hilarious.

If anyone can beat anyone why are you so worried about getting down to a specific weight before you go back to fighting? I mean if all you gotta do is show up then your chances are just as good no matter what, right?

Very true........

But personally I see the only way to win a fight for sure is to just not fight. Then you haven't won but you can't loose. Walk or run away. Simple. Lol.

(Although if you cant walk away for whatever reason I guess your training will pay off....)

First of all I apologize Sake Sipper I was out of line, hence the deletion.

Anyway I was talking about a fight like a comp fight not so much self defense. In a known fight situation ( me vs you) the guy with the better combination of skill/conditioning/strategy/luck wins an overwhelming majority of fights. If that wasnt true then all the guys that train for competitions are just wasting their time since training doesnt help one become a better fighter. I'm done with this thread.

It sounds like a matter of time before someone finds out what this "teacher " is doing then sues him because one of his students busted someone up. What a disgrace.

Only heard of one students going to jail. I really have never heard of a MA teacher getting sued because they told there students that it is okay to go pick fights with random people. I hope those cases exist, because it gives me hope for the future.

That's something you say to the loser to make him feel better, but it's BS.
