I've been to more than one bjj place now that teaches a full range of techniques, but when cage matches come up they have all these rules they make sure everyone knows well before the fight, mainly because they don't follow these rules on a daily bases.
So I gotta ask..............
Do MMA practitioners believe the cage has too many rules as well?
Yes MM47, and the rest of you, IT IS A VS THREAD!!!DUN DUN DUNNNNNNnn......

There are two rules I really dont like. One is the time/rounds. It should be one round that ends when the fight is over. the other rule is that they stand the guys up or break them up when they arent doing anything. They should leave it alone. As far as the other rules, they are designed to really protect the guys. The back of the head thing is really the only other one that gets in the way when I watch the matches.

I agree with the time/round and the standing up thing but I think the back of the head is reasonable.

The reason I dont like the back of the head is because the injury to the spinal cord is from the back of the neck, they just added the back of the head to be safe.

I gotta agree with this point. Too many cage fighters leave the back of their heads unguarded knowing full well that you can't hit them there. But then again I like my UFC old school (watching a guy submit to a barrage of testicle strikes is just plain hilarious)

Seriously though. I understand that the rules are there to protect the fighters and I respect that. Most fighters don't get paid enough money to risk permenant injury.

Yeah like a crotch shot, no amount of money is equal to that half and hour or pain.
not not too many rules it is a sport after all. other combat sports have much more rules.
that doesnt mean they cant fight without rules.
I would disagree...
Take point fighters; too many times in a real fight they hold back or don't properly defend their heads. As has already been expressed, too many guys with cage/MMA back ground leave their necks and heads esposed because in the cage they can't be hit there. Marc MacYoung used to have a funny story about fighting a grappler who had him in a triangle choke within seconds. So he did the only they he was able to, bite the guy's groin (left testy I believe).
In the street there are no rules and fights are not always decided by skill but by who more aggressive. Thats why, consider this question. Which is more likely to achieve results someone trying to knock someone out by trading blows or someone choking out an attacker? Is it more aggressive grab someone collar and stomp the knee (which will break it, even if you take a shot to the face) or use a simple foot sweep to the ankle? A punch to jaw or strike to the throat?

There was an early UFC bout many many years ago where Paul Varlens submitted a guy (I think he was a Korean fellow) by repeatedly hitting him in the groin. Talk about ground and pound.
