i was in a tournament, and in my division there were various different styles most were korean. there was one chinese MA, i didn't get the chance to spar against him he lost his first match, but i watch his style of fighting and it was more circular than straight forward like he was trying absorb his opponents rhythm and he seem to go low alot to avoid the kicks.

It is regrettable that a person(s) treat a man who is valuable to them well, and a man that is worthless to them poorly.
The majority of my training has been in Korean styles, but I have to agree that Korean styles tend to be harder (ie, kicking, punching and blocking) whereas Chinese styles rely on absorbtion. Also, I have noticed that Korean styles tend to keep a greater distance where Chinese styles fight closer in. Again, theses are generalizations, and are only based upon my limited exposure to Chinese styles.
i agree jade buddha, i have found that even studying hapkido where they try to be closer, softer and more circular than other MA, that Chinese one are still more Close, soft, and circular.
There are Chinese martial arts practioners on this forum but not as active or have not posted here for some time.
Why don't you help us get it going by posting some in the Chinese Martial Arts section to attract some new Chinese martial artists and get the old ones back? Thanks.
Jalek, what is Lek Fist? are you developing a style? if so would you mind posting what you are working and how long you have been working on it? it would be very interesting, and you might refine some techniques by bouncing problems off of other MAists.
Lek fist which is a style i'm developing, is kind of like a a child of Hung Gar. I kept most of the deep rooted stances i learned, but applied more of a african martial art rythm to the striking blocks. The crippling strikes are made quicker and more in synch with the over all motion. I made forms which start like strikes but end with chin na. The kicks are used to form devasting sweeps, in stead of standard low kicks. It is meant to be calm yet ferocious, soft yet hard, pushing yet pulling. It has had an african influence along with the Hung Gar. I have only been working on it for about a year. So its being created but its getting there. One day i hope to open up a school and teach it.
it's gone through many names, and i was just trying them out, lek is my nickname so i was just like whatever, plus my friend wanted to hear it sound like breakfeast. originally it was agile flame.

i've been taking chinese MA for a bout a year now... Wing Chun/Wushu
and yea its very close range and more hand usage than feet. (Wing Chun) we focus and strike in the center line of the person and go for the head, and neck. The moves are very veryyyyy fluent unlike TKD where its "jagged". we use "sticky hands" to build up our speed/dex/ feel of the other person. So basically if ur in contact with the other person .. the other person is pretty much done for..unless he/she is inexperienced.
Wushu .... much more for showing off and looks cool=P u need to be VERY flexible for this... or decent enuf
