Hey guys John and I were talking in another thread about this guy Chuck Cory from Lifeskills Martial Arts / InstructorsThe website says he has a black belt in BJJ but no one has any info on it and I haven't been able to verify it anywhere. Just wondering if any of you guys know anything about him or have any info on his BJJ training. I've sent him a couple of emails to him but, no response yet.
If we can't find anything on him I guess I'll just have to post it on like sherdog and Bullshido and let them have a feeding frenzy.

Wow Tri, I hardly recognized the voice of those emails as yours. They definitley weren't the blunt, in-your-face voice you often use
This guy looks like he's got a big old ego bubble going on. 13 black belts...including a 15th degree dan 8) I doubt you'll get a reply from him. Tri, I really liked the use of the word integrity in your second email. It is amazing to me at how many people don't show it
Thanks Lun I actually do have an education but, my voice on the forum is more like the voice I use when talking to my friends. As right of now no response.

and hes located in irvine CA, where there are many bjj schools (good ones), so if he doesnt respond or is faking, people will go to his schools if this gets posted on sherdog/bullshido
It's kind of funny that of all the belts he holds, some are at extremely high belt ranking (like 15) but people have problem with anyone claiming to hold even a first degree BB in BJJ......
BTW, Irvine is very close to where I live.
They also have another female instructor with 15th degree BB.
Complete yeah I saw the other 15th dan lady, just weird. As far as the BJJ thing since I train in BJJ I find it odd when some one claims a black belt and doesn't say who it's from. As far as the other arts he claims black belts in since I don't know them he could say anything to me and I couldn't argue with it. I think it would be great though if other arts were as focused on proving lineage as we are in BJJ.
Here is the response I got.
Hi Andreas,
Thanks for following up on your email. I did receive it, and hadn’t gotten to address your request. I’ll have an opportunity to speak with Mr. Cory before Friday, and I’ll be happy to reply to you with those details.

Blackbelts have such different meaning between different styles, some are much loose with than others, like BJJ, which to me BB in BJJ is more like a master level since it takes 10 - 15 years to achieve versus typical BB in other arts that take only 1 - 3 years, and is only considered a starting point for the long journey.
For other styles, I'm sure they all have other blackbelts who have gave them their belts, and lineages too but there just are too many of them that it's nearly impossible to track who's who.

glad bjj became popular during the age of the internet so it could be somewhat tracked.

This is just my opinion, but any system that has so many dans that there are at least 15, well that screams a black belt that means very little. That they claim more than one instructor with a 15th dan, that screams buy-a-belt. I'd avoid that place like the plaugue if I were a student looking for a place to train.

in the Bujinkan ranking system we have 15th degree BB. but its really up to 10th degree,
an 11th degree would actually be a 10th dan 1st level and so on till
15th degree which is 10th dan 5th level. those who are between 11 and 15th degree recieve advanced Shihan teachings and are menkyo kaiden license holders. theres not that many 15th Dans an ive never heard of
this dude....gonna ask about him

On a side note, how the hell would you get a 15th degree dan anyway?!
he had to catch a fly with chopsticks.
15th dan - yeah technically you can reach it in the style I study.... but you would have to be 90 years old, have trained from birth, and completed all dans in the minimum 6 year requirment, which no one has ever done before.
yeah and thats just in a japanese jujitsu, which isnt particularly strickt compared to some styles.
