Budo of MMA

i just got my June issue of black belt (Penn is on the cover which is funny given how bad he is doing on the show....) anyway there was an article about MMA and the warrior way and how the sport lacks it.... originally that is why i never got into MMA. but now that i have been watching more i see the skill necessary for MMA and i consider it a MA, not just a sport. but i got to say that it really does bug me how the UFC (the only one i can easily watch) lacks honor. the matches are set up to be stupid soup dramas and the fighters some times show a total lack of respect for other fighters and the sport. they don't even bow or anything before entering the ring! that is just wrong. and i think they should show more respect to eachother just before the fight than just touching gloves. that is more a sign that "yeah i am ready to start" not "i am showing you respect"

thoughts?

Some show respect. but when high money is involved most people will forget about honour and think of winning.

The problem is that there is no instruction of respect or honor in MMA that I have seen, it's like boxing but with kicking, bjj and less gloves thrown in the mix.
When UFC first started I was very pleased to see that there was actual combat on the screen in front of me... but now, due to weight class restrictions and such I don't often watch.
I will watch Bodog Fights from time to time due to getting that channel, or sometimes i'm in a bar with UFC dialed in, but I don't agree with weight classes. Your mugger isn't going to stop the assault due to being a weight class heavier than you.
I personally have trained with MMA types, and I expect to again at one or two different gyms, I even was a bouncer at a few MMA events in my state... it is a respectable, and sometimes devistating form of fighting... but I would list it as a combat system, not a martial art.
In my opinion though, due to the people I have met in that circle, that sort of deference for your opponent or respect for the arena would be the exception in most cases due to the personality type of the average MMA fighter.
