Not only in MMA but also in Muay Thai, you rarely see sidekicks. I think (just my guess) it has to do with being exposed after executing the kick. Having TKD background I love sidekicks but I don't see it being used much in MMA. GSP does use spinning back kick once in a while.

I know huh?
like I questioned in another thread, I actually see very little martial arts either than kick boxing, muay thai, JJ, and all that other stuff.
I never seen a MMAist use side kicks, any other martial arts stuff like from Shaolin, or Wing Chun or anything like that. why don't they ever use any of that stuff? After all why do they call it Mixed MARTIAL ARTS?

I think people dont use it because it leaves you open for attacks and takedowns. I think what moves people use while fighting depends on what they are most comfortable with.

Because when the UFC began, Royce Gracie beat the **** out of people who practiced those styles so the martial artist began to train bjj, later they found out that mixing it with muay thai and kickboxing was more effective that just bjj so they created the MMA. But also many techniques like the one in Ninjutsu and hkd are not allowed in MMA bouts.

yeah I see what you are saying. do you thing Wing Chun would've have been good in the UFC? I mean, when I spar people, I use WC lower kicks to the shins, ankles, etc. It's pretty effectice. I think that strikers would be better if they allowed shin kicks, and knee kicks, and all that stuff, but the rules say no!

what does anyone think about Joint locks (if they were able to be used, no rules against them) in the UFC?

Bujinkan is made up of 3 schools of Ninjutsu and 6 of traditional martial arts from Japan. It is one of the most well rounded ma that exists. You should try it I think u will like it!
