HONG MAN CHOI HEADS TO KOREAN MILITARY Wednesday, April 16, 2008 - by MMAWeekly.com Korea’s biggest mixed martial arts star, the 7-foot-2 and 350-pound Hong Man Choi, will be off the radar for the next 24 months.
Choi will begin his military service on April 21, when he begins four weeks of basic training. In South Korea, where Choi is from, there is a mandatory commitment to military service of 24 to 27 months.
The 27-year-old fighter has been able to put off his commitment for some time, but has finally decided to fulfill his required service.
With a lengthy record in kickboxing, Choi’s most recent bout was in mixed martial arts competition. He lost by submission in the first round on New Year’s Eve to top heavyweight fighter Fedor Emelianenko.
He was more of a stand-up K-1 type of fighter not trained in ground game but he has to right to fight in MMA just like anybody, and quite a challenge taking on the #1 heavyweight in the world.
At 7-foot, 2-inches and 350 pounds, he's a big boy.

Where is he serving? At the border?

Dude I got respect for anyone who fights, Hong Man Choi was just boring to watch. In his kick boxing matches he would just keep you at bay with his reach, which is the smart thing to do but still boring. I like exciting fighters man I don't care what you do just make it exciting.

A common strategy for very big kickboxers, and, you're right, very dull to watch. Not what I'm looking for in a kickboxing or MMA match at all.
