But I'm a bit concerned....The fact that it took so long for you to make him tap....It disheartens me. J/K
I'm so easy with new people it's ridiculous. I believe that showing someone in their first class that when they are so exhausted after 5 minutes of rolling and yet I barely did anything and not only came out ahead but am ready to keep going says more about the technical aspects of BJJ than tapping them every 5 seconds. Staying safe and calm and out of danger against an opponent going 100% means more than "catching" them with something. At least that's what I believe, of course a lot of people don't feel that way.

See...The higher belts go into the thing with the attitude of "Just stay safe and don't get tapped...Forget about trying to make THEM tap." That makes it more difficult for the guy coming in IMO....They are going all out trying to make you tap, yet you are simply defending and not really trying to advance in position. LOL Kinda funny if you ask me.

No blue belts+ ever tried when we rolled during my first few weeks. It was the advanced white belts job to sub me every second they could. Now thats my job and I love it Its the only time I can work on a lot of submissions. Although I do always tell the students how to defend what I did and try to help them out.

Just got in from my class tonight and they were ther, i decided to spar with them and show them their wrong ways, as they went on about there power in a fighting stance. They were in a very fancy stance with there front leg with all the weight and back leg and back fist poised (clearly showing me that the back leg and fist would strike) I went against the guy and as soon as he moved i skipped forward with a spin side kick to there lead leg, obviously with all there weight on that leg i crumpled him. Thats the point where i picked him up and with a big grin said "are you going to learn now" LMAO it was so funny, my black belts were in stitches.
It's a great idea to spar the instructor. I also think you handled the situation the best way you knew how. I am still a novice and I agree that if they came to you to learn, then they should shut up and learn.

Although its your school, they were arguing their point and you were arguing yours but no one was trying to prove who was right.
BRAVO! Nice move...maybe now they'll get the hint.
