Duk Moo Hapkido Academy
About the club
Our biggest asset is that our Founder and President, Grandmaster Kim Duk In, is one of the most senior Masters within the
Korea Hapkido Federation (the international governing and certificating body of Hapkido) and he is also one of the few
people who helped develop the original art of Korean Hapkido.
We have a very strong affiliation with, and offer internationally-prestigious certification from, the Korea Hapkido Federation.
In fact, we are 1 of only 10 leading Academies that were recognised by the Korea Hapkido Federation when it formed. We
also offer internationally-recognised certification from Kukkiwon (the World Taekwondo Headquarters) and from the World
Kumdo Federation.
We already have firmly established branches of our Academy, and the Korea Hapkido Federation, throughout Korea, the UK,
France and Greece, and we are committed to spreading the incredible art of Hapkido to as many as possible. In the UK, and
on behalf of the Korea Hapkido Federation, we are the official hosts of the Korea Hapkido Federation European
Championships and the UK National Hapkido Championships. Both championships are held as international friendship
festivals, incorporating unique seminars with the world’s ultimate authorities on Korean Mudo. On behalf of the Korea
Hapkido Federation, we also hosted the 1st ever Official Korea Hapkido Federation Black Belt grading in Greece and, since
then, our Duk Moo Academy Greece Branch of the Korea Hapkido Federation has greatly contributed to the expansion of
Hapkido in Greece - hosting more Official Korea Hapkido Federation Black Belt gradings, special Master seminars, and the
annual European Duk Moo Academy Summer Training Camp.
In addition to promoting Korean Mudo training within the countries of our established clubs, our Masters have held
seminars and demonstrations across the world, including in Columbia, Morocco, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ireland,
Panama and Belgium. Our Masters and Instructors are dedicated to promoting and developing Korean Mudo, and also hold
important positions within the Korea Hapkido Federation itself. The Chief Instructor of the Duk Moo Academy, Grandmaster
Seo Myung Il, is the Korea Hapkido Federation’s International Director. Grandmaster Kim Duk In’s 1st son, Master Kim June,
is the Korea Hapkido Federation’s Planning Director and the Duk Moo Academy’s Secretary-General. Grandmaster Kim’s 2nd
son, Master Kim Beom (my Master), is the Director and Official Representative of the Korea Hapkido Federation in the UK, and the
Technical Director and Chief Instructor for the Duk Moo Academy in Europe.
What we teach
Duk Moo Academy, students may train in Hapkido, Taekwondo and/or Kumdo. We also specialise in advanced
kicking techniques and comprehensive weapons training - particularly the long staff. The long staff is particularly good for improving blood circulation, correct breathing, hand-to-eye co-ordination, and body conditioning.
Grandmaster Kim Duk In’s family has a highly-respected 37-generation history of senior military warriors, and good-quality
weapons and martial arts techniques. Therefore, in addition to our expertise in the art of Hapkido, our syllabus embraces
unique noble techniques and Korean military weapons that Grandmaster Kim learnt and developed from his grandfather,
General Jul Chung Kim Kyung Sik (senior martial arts warrior and senior official in charge of the King’s bodyguards at the
end of the Choseon Dynasty).
The opportunities for training development with us are indeed endless. For example, a Hapkido student can learn and
develop progressively more advanced physical techniques until attaining 5th Dan Black Belt level, after which, a Master
focuses on developing an in-depth understanding of traditional Korean medicinal skills such as acupuncture, acupressure,
and chiropractics.
We truly incorporate the study of all factors that affect the health of our bodies. The purpose of training is personal
development and self-defence. Above all, the philosophy of the Duk Moo Academy is to harmoniously and simultaneously
develop and discipline the mind, body and spirit, and to embrace the fundamental virtues that build a good, strong and
honourable character - courtesy, patience, modesty and discipline.
