Sorry to hear about the loss and thanks for sharing. I agree, I know I can do much better in the "taking care of me" department. Maybe this will help motivate me to start eating better and exercise even more.

On a side note - I go to the doctor for a checkup next Tuesday. I guess we'll see what he says to motivate me as well. I'll probably have the blood test results back the following week, so that is sure to motivate me as I've slipped from my healthy eating a bit in the past few months.

We all can do a little more to keep ourselves healthier.

I ran a mile on a treadmill this morning before going to work so I felt pretty good about it.

I can hosnestly say I eat better now than before partly because of what I've been reading here.

good to hear all you guys are so positive.

remember thoough, you need to be aware of familial hypercholesteraemia which will most likely not respond to exercise/diet alone.

Does anyone know how long you sould wait between checking blood pressure? My blood pressure got a little high but I started karate and eating a little better. I went back to the Docs the other week and they said my lower number (diastolic i think) was still a little high but I was sick and had been taking nightquill (which I believe raises your blood pressure) and had been eating chicken soup (which is high in salt). I want to have it checked again just to make sure but wasnt sure how long I should wait for it to go back down. A day? A week? Longer? Shorter?

wait a week or so. doesn't really matter.

the diastolic (the lower number) is the important one with reference to cardiovascualr risk (ie risk of Mi and stroke)

You can measure blood pressure anytime but even if you take it back to back, the number will vary somewhat. What the doctor told me was to measure it daily at the same time, so all the conditions are the same, that way you know if it's going up or down over time.

Could you explain this condition a little more in detail? I have never heard of it.
