Home Country: | HANDSTAND PRESSUPS Hanstand pressups are in my opinion the most underused strengh builder. Combined with heavy bench pressing deadlifting and squatting, a very high amount of strength can be obtained quickly.
I sometimes see people shoulder pressing 100kilos for 12 reps and yet they cant do more than 3 or 4 handtsand pressups. The reason is because when your balancing your whole body weight and trying to handstand press it becomes a whole new different ball game. You use a lot of extra muscles to do this and as martial artists, this is the kind of training thats most appropriate. Especially if your a grappler, you will ALWAYS be using more than one muscle to get into a dominating position, so start handstand pressing. I shall shortly have a post on the most effective way to do this, so keep checking my blog on the website below.
Thanks

Home Country: | Unfortunately, not everyone CAN do these.
Better off doing something else that gets the same results

Home Country: | I agree, it's a great exercise. Something you can do almost anywhere, without any equipments. It does build strength and balance at the same time. It's also not an easy one so not everyone can do it. It's a great exercise for someone who can and for those can't now, something they should try to work towards. |

Home Country: | They're a regular part of class for Capoeira, as you can imagine. We do all sorts of weird press ups, crab press ups, bridge press ups, press ups while trying to do the splits (think the instructor is showing off a bit here), and the most impressive of them all: the press ups where you try and bounce yourself across the room.
I think the most handstand press ups I've ever done in one go was 11 or 12. Haven't done them for ages though, don't know why.

Home Country: | for those who cant do them...other than broken arms...why not?
If you are talking about strength...then work up to them (and lean on a wall). Start by just doing just a hand stand against a wall. once you are pretty good at that and can hold it for a long time, work on doing one. Once you can do one, move to two. etc. When you think you are ready try it w/o the wall. Make sure to use a pillow incase you slip |

So what can you do in the way of weight training? Are shoulder presses to much or is it ok if you use light weights? Does jumping affect anything in your spine or do you have to take it easy with that as well? Boy...you are an ol buzzard! |

One has to develop a different training routine.
Therefore, like martial arts, different things ar to be examined.
I dont spar as often as I like to, but one of my instructors doesnt either, and once in awhile he exlpodes with great tactical skill.
