Health & FitnessDiscuss health and fitness related to martial arts here
G'day everyone.
I am 16, 180cm tall and 60kg. I am looking to increase my strength, speed and endurance, without loosing flexibility.
What kind of supplements (protein drink, creatine etc) would you recommend I take and are there any I should stay clear of?
Thanks

Yes, avoid illegal steriods
At this time I'm not sure of any suppliments that would be best as I don't take anything so I don't know...but I know a lot of people who use protein drinks and stuff. They say it works...
Also I know gensing is good for energy, and there are a lot of other herbal type stuff that works....
However when looking into taking supplements and stuff, be very careful as a lot of energy pills and stuff that has been being advertised some times have serious side effects.
You are 16. No supplements should be necessary at that age. Just maintain a good diet and workout regimine and you'll do fine. Talk with your Sensi and see what he recommends.
Try to find out all the inforation you can about ANY supplement before taking it - some of these "miracle potions" are all smoke and mirrors.
Vitamins and minerals along with balanced diet. Stay away from any types of steroids or even other substances banned by many major sports, such as amphatamines, ephederine, etc.
I used to take Hydroxycut which contained ephederine supposed to help with faster metabolism but it had the side effect of high blood pressure so I stop taking them. Few years later, the medical society came out and said ephederine is dangerous.

My suggestion would be to take no suppliments but a natural diet. Eat lots of chicken for protien(or walnuts etc. if vegan or don't like chicken) but otherwise suppliments are not needed. Your genetics will let you become the size you are right for and allow you to be the best you can be. Hard work gets you the glorly not artificial suppliments.

If you eat more fruits & vegatables, that'll give you vitamins. I still take a vitamin a day along with eatting apples, carrots, etc., but I also work 12 to 14 hrs a day along with all my "Honey-do list". My days are very long, and it helps me maintain my health.
For the last month Ive been having a protein shake after trainning and before bed. The reason I do this is because during school days it is hard to get three decent meals in a day plus it is expensive to eat fish and chicken everyday. Is there any problems having these protein shakes, as protein is a natural substance and the shakes are quick and easy?

In a busy world of today... they make shakes for the busy people. I take multi-vitamins regardless if I ate good that day or not. My days gets busy at work, home, etc so I can see where a shake would do good.

Try eat some food along with your protein shakes. I can't remember the specifics, but you need other nutrients to help break the protein down so that your body can use it properly.

Suppliments are not a miracle. Keeping a better diet is much more important than suppliments. If you understand about nutrition first, you can boost your diet more effectively through suppliments. Anything worth doing is worth working for. Keep that in mind.
I believe in supplements. Just as the name suggests, it's only meant to supplement your good daily intake, not to replace it. Your body needs certain nutrients everyday to survive and even more for atheletes. As good as your diet is, sometimes it's not easy to get all the nutrients from your meals alone. Supplements are there to supplements your nutrients need. Eating crappy and only taking supplements is not going to do your body good.
