i'm new i used to study taekwondo and made it to 1st gup, and as a young kid, of 8-10 i studied greco-roman wrestling, though all i remember from wrestling is single leg and double leg takedowns, and the full nelson. currently i have not been active in martial arts but i'm trying to get back into it. i still remember alot of kicks from taekwondo, and know how to safely practice them. for a while i tried to talk to the local boxer here in urbanna, va. he's in his 70's and used to be the california state golden gloves champion,so i tried to get him to train me, but he told me i was to old to train, i told him i used to study taekwondo and he didn't seem to care. i've read a couple of posts about being to old to learn or compete in full contact events, and generally the motto seems to be "there is no time like now" so i'm thinking about kickboxing, or muay thai. my neighbor is a submission wrestler and he told me he would teach me a few holds and a few submissions so maybe i'll try MMA. urbanna's far from any school/gym so my options are limited to my neighbor. alot of his friends were thaiboxers. he showed he the thai clinch , and it wasn't how i imagined. i believe that if began training with him that i could get back into fighting shape. maybe the kicks i know could be used in muay thai.

Hello there, nice to have you with us! Just one piece of advice: Since you got to 1st Gup/Kup in TKD, I would advise you give it another go! I train in TKD too, and I think it is by far one of the best arts. Stay with it man!
This is actually a pretty good advice. From my own personal experience, I had tried few styles, so I'm all for people learning more than one style. However, there is nothing wrong with sticking with your first style long enough to learn as much as you can before switching and trying something different. On the flip side, if you switch too early, you haven't quite learned the first style really well and it will not help you with the next style.
