If you're old enough to ask, you're probably too old. I don't want to be the one to break it to you, but I'm going to break it to you. If you want to stay healthy, eat your fiber and try not to break a hip.
That's a stupid answer. Ain't you ever heard of Jack LaLanne? Or seen those old dudes on the classic chinese martial arts flicks?
I think it's mean and nasty to call my opinion a "stupid answer".
I have heard of Jack LaLanne, but I don't really like whiskey, and I don't see what that has to do with anything.
And, yes, I've seen all those old dudes on the classic chinese MA flicks. Do you know what they all have in common? They're dead.
That's because those movies are quite old... And they were quite old when they shot the movie... Nothing to do with the fact they were masters of martial arts, If that's what you were trying to imply.
And wikipedia Jack LaLanne the guy. Wiskey?! I'm talking about the "Godfather of Fitness".
First, for the common occidental (esp youthful exuberance), the concepts are not clearly understood.
Thus, secondly, making it harder and taking longer to grasp.
Third, if there is youth, or the body is young, it is better to put it through the "paces" early, picking up more experience. Later, as the body gets old and slows somewhat, Tai Ji would be a excellent supplement.
If it were me, and I had, I'll start of with Judo/Ju Jitsu first.
Learning the ground tactics is going to help and compliment learning the stand up tactics. Thus in turn, time will age and training will occur injury. Thus Tai Ji would come into play.
I found more people who study "stand up" martial arts, having diffculty in the start learning ground martial arts. To me, the transition from ground to stand up is easier.

yeah too "you"
many find stand up to grappling easier as well
Yea you're never too old to start, and don't forget to kinda look into the school's programs and things like that. See if you can get a free class or 2 before you start just paying and then learn you dislike it. I always check the school's lineage and all that, but that's just me. Anywho, welcome to the forums and post away.
