Since your profile states that you are only 23, I'd have to say you are definitely not too old to start practicing martial arts. As a matter of fact, I don't believe any age is 'too old.' I've known martial artists who began in their forties and fifties and still practice today. Shop around. Look for a good school that fits what you are looking for in a martial art - self defense, grappling, kickboxing, etc. Try out a free lesson if you can. Good luck.

It's hard to recommend a particular style because how styles are taught varies greatly according to different instructors and schools. If you want a particularly soft art, then try tai chi. If you want to build up your physical fitness and cardio but you don't mind some tough training, try muay thai. The best advice I can give you is to really shop around at the martial arts schools in your area. Go watch some classes being taught and, if possible, take a free introductory class. Talk to the instructors and tell them what you are looking for in your training. Don't be shy about asking questions. A good instructor will be informative and receptive to your needs. Most of all, be picky. Martial arts training requires a great deal of time investment, so invest wisely.

Home Country: | We have a couple of women that are in their 80's that come in every week. I think they also do Tai Chi on Saturdays. If they can do it, anyone can.

Home Country: | As others have said, you're never too old Figure out the reasons you want to study martial arts and rate them. Then go to the schools and see how they train. Does the training focus match why you want to study? If so your in great luck. Go for it and have fun.

Home Country: | It is never to old to start. If my mom could take Tai Chi with me in her early 60's while undergoing chemo anyone can start some kind of art.
Welcome to the forums btw!

I had started another martial art at 25.
As with any starting, ome has to learn the basics and work from there.
Just get out there, find something close and affordable, and train.
