Taijitsu/Taijutsu

Ive noticed no one has mentioned the fighting art of tai jitsu yet, its starting to flourish where I live and thought Id post info about it. feel free to correct or add stuff

Taijitsu/Taijutsu

translated - true technique of the body

History and basic principle
Taijutsu was practiced extensively by the ninja warriors of japan, and some samurai linages followed this art also. it is developed from one of the eighteen disciplines of the ninja from the scrolls of the Togakure Ryu, Not a great deal has chnaged in modern day training as the self defense aspects provided are simple and effective utilizing every part of your body as a means to an end students are advised only to leave the fight once your opponent is on the floor preferably unconscious. Flexibility is key here as taijitsu students must learn to fight at long range(utilizing flying kicks, long kicks, empty hand strikes and fist fighting), close range(utilizing elbows, knees, enemy's weak points such as groin and eyes), grappling and lock range (utilizing distraction through striking opponents weak points, countering common locks, floor fighting, throwing techniques)

It is partly based on the principle that one body part does not move of its own the entire body moves which is in fact an ancient Chinese concept "If One Joint Moves, All Nine Joints Move." when performing simple actions every part of your body shifts slightly in order to maintain you 'in' and 'yo' (yin, yang)

weapons
Weapons include all those of the ninja here is a list (I may have missed some) they are written in the order in which students wil train in them although some do a slightly different order

1. your body (every part of it!)
2. Bo staff (short bo or jo staff)
3. shuriken (small throwing stars used for poisin striked, distraction and throwing into the ground behind you as you runaway)
3a. knifes, (throwing, striking, disarming opponents)
4. Bokken (wooden katana, used for training without breaking health and safety laws also in how to disarm opponents weilding such a weapon)
5. Nunchuck
6. Tonfa
7. any others (can include guns)

Grading system
1. white
2. yellow
3. orange
4. red
5. green
6. Blue
7. Purple
8. Brown
9. Black

Black belts have nine dans to reach also

well thats about it really any questions ill try and answer them, this was my first info post so sorry if its not great, I got most of the info from my snesei, wikipedia is always helpful though

Ninjutsu Panama is a jewel in the rough

Taijutsu is one of the main training areas of the Bujinkan because Taijutsu comes from some of our schools like Togakure and Takagi

Taijutsu!!

Good to see some people interested in Taijutsu as well... I'm a regular practicing Taijutsu user... but love practicing most other forms of Ninjutsu, mainly Shurikenjutsu... Go sharp objects, fly! I've made a battle ready version of The Kusarikama (sickle/chain) as it was a fairly efficient ninjutsu weapon, but also a sparring version using a tennis ball, rope, and wood. these are very fun to practice with.

I had two months of Taijitsu. It was from a former student of Robert Bussey. I enjoyed the training. I was country hopping and was only there for a couple of months.

I still have a curiosity about it and read posts like these.
