I feel it would be unfair on any homosexuals to make a statmement like that because homosexuality isnt just about sex, which is how youve made it sound.

Lol the Romans weren't homosexual in fact in Rome homosexuality was extremely frowned upon and they hated how the Greeks did it there were in fact laws against it including death. So when Romans were away they would just use the local population for there "needs" thats why alot of Romans stayed behind in Briton They had new wives.

Erm I'm sorry to break this to you but. put simply your wrong.

here ifs the greeko roman dofference

greek armies encouraged homosexuality, in order to bring strength and bonds in the phalanxes.

the roma armies did not encourage it but they accepted it occurred and induced no penalties for homosexuality.

The romans would not 'hate; the greeks for anything, the romans in fact worshipped the greeks, a perfect example of this might be the famous roman book the aenid written by virgil, which is a near enough copy of Homers odyssy written by a greek

Okay thanks for explaining to me that I was wrong but I need to understand what I was wrong about, care to use the quote button there pal

I was talking about homosexuality on a deeper level, because certain people were talking about it like its something dirty or wrong its just another way people express theselves. which in fact shows how the samurai were far more advanced than people who dish out labels.

Wow, this thread spiraled out of control pretty strangely.

Greeks downplayed the importance of women a lot. I do not know of a source for this off the top of my head but a friend of mine (Classics and Latin major at college) told me that Greeks generally believe that the only form of love existed between two men. In addition, I do know that some Roman Emperors kept male sex workers on staff and workers of both genders were regulars at orgies. But then again, Greeks and Romans were known for all sorts of excesses. As for the Samurai's sexuality, I would not doubt that the behavior might be encouraged for similar reasons given that the climate of gender relations is very similar.

To answer the original post. Pinning the samurai as good or evil is very subjective. I would rather say that they were very lawful (to use D&D terms), that is to say that they would follow the leaders no matter what. Some might say they were cruel by burning a village, others might say they they were working for the greater good by preventing disloyalty and thus preserving society. Either way, who ever said history is written by the victors hit the nail on the head.

Just because some were gay,how does that make them any less of a person because they are gay.Sometimes the Homosexuals might have been some of those most honourable.

Honour is judged my an individuals actions, not be physical characteristics.and even if some,or alot of samurai who did
do bad things, its kind of silly to think all of them did.
