What about training in katas and out-dated or bladed weapons?
Even with Kata training you can have certain skills that are effective. But one thing that Karate practioners say is that Bunkai (Kata application) is very important, which is is. But still if someone learns to move off the line and cover and also practises getting power with strikes through timing then it will have an effect on someone.

Well it can be said, there exist pros and cons to every subject.

Hey, my post count has the same palaverment tone as anyone elses'
I have heard that submission grappling is just bjj with no gi.
well i dont quite get what you mean but,
we train straight submission as well.
at my dojo, we spar like this,
start from standing position, and you know see who can throw the other man down, and we teach to follow every throw to the ground in a position on your oppenent, then you go for submission. you win either by submission, or if your oppent gives up from being thrown.
we rarely start a match already on the ground. is this what you mean?

No they are talking about specifically submission wrestling as a style. It's different then straight bjj or Judo or sambo or wrestling.

It's basically what was orginally called cath as catch can wrestling. It's wrestling with points awarded for take downs pins and submissions

Yes, in fact there are four styles that are considered to be what wrestling actually is; Free Style/Folk Style, Greco Roman, Sambo and Judo. You can call any one of these styles wrestling.

Judo is a form of grappling, which can be considered as wrestling.
To answer the OP's question, like many others have said, it will depend on the practioners. Seeing a few videos on youtube typically aren't useful to make a decision as you may have seen only a fraction of the total amount of practioners. The idea of judo beats BJJ or karate beats TKD, or whatever combinations you want, to me, seem pointless. You're in the martial art to learn in some way, become fit, or whateverother reason. Focus on yourself instead of questions such as X art beats Y art.
