Judo concentrates more on throws and trips (unless your club does newaza) so its stronger in that area than BJJ.

BJJ concentrates more on the actual ground work and submissions so is stronger there.

Also Judo dont really do guard/fight of their back!

In my opinion if you want the best of both worlds then do submission grappling becouse its like Freestyle Wrestling, BJJ and judo put together.

cool, ty

thanks for the replys, but when i met this guy who is a pretty advanced judo guy, not a bb yet though, he fought a blue belt in bjj, and barely won,so isnt that kinda weird? Also isnt blu belt only the 2nd belt? is something like relly, relly wrong with their ranking system, i dont no much about bjj, maybe thats y.

BJJ rankings are: white-blue-purple-brown-black. But it takes a long time to get each (average 2 years per belt so about 10years before your a black belt)

An like was said before depends on a individual!

I think it depends on the person and where they got their belt. If either person got their belt at a "McDojo" then the grade doesnt really matter because the difference in skill levels will be huge.

My general advice is that you should learn one art really well, no matter what it is, and then find some other parts of other art to supplement your main art. However, that is just me. Someone with greater free time and means might consider learning a second art really well too.

Perhaps to fill the cup, savor the flavor, consume its contents, and refill it with a different flavor,,,,,

i wouldnt base an opinion on a martial art on what you see on youtube they are often biased towards one or the other. its down to the person.

I think its more of a "This is good, I think if I mix these two drinks together they will be even better" for me. Although, something can be said for those who have the time and money to buy a full cup of something different. But I fear that our analogy will soon confuse the reality of the topic.

"Martial Arts Cocktail" is an interesting term however...

The people who responded on this thread are everyone from very young to very old for all sorts of interests and hobbies. Pretty much, the idea that a person is stronger than another person, but an style is not stronger than another style is one of the few things we can find common ground on.

To me training makes a huge difference too. A person can have many physical attributes, but if he hasn't trained realistically ( can you say no-contact sparring ) then a person with less physical attributes that has trained realistically will be more successful. That certainly doesn't mean physical attributes don't mean anything, just not everything.

Just because something is mixed, doesnt mean it is going to be good

What about training in katas and out-dated or bladed weapons?
