great point magister the structure of the hand could work either way. i think you would still need to slightly tilt your hand either way, but yeah you made a good point... someone give him +rep, i can't yet.

gin, i wasn't totally impress with the books either because they are really basic... once i accepted that they were wrote for people that know nothing of MA, i could enjoy it more and skim over the basics.

Bruce Lee got his jab from Jack Dempsey's book, which he drew alot of his boxing from. Jack Dempsey advocated the vertical fist and bottom three knuckles, as the fist is properly aligned with the arm in this position. In his book Dempsey states that if you make a vertical fist, hold it face height, and extend it and lean against a wall, you will naturally make coontact with the bottom three knuckles. Although the metacarpals are smaller, the alignment is straight down the arm, so there is better support and structure.
Get the book, see for yourself. The "Straight blast" is Bruce Lee's re-naming of Dempsey's term, "The Stiff Jolt." Bruce Lee's drawings are exact copies of Dempsey's straight out of his book.

Jeet Kune Do is a Chinese name, as it was predominantly based on Chinese Martial Arts. Lee's concept for spontaneous response and action, being totally free, devoid of any technique, or being formless, is simply a description of what all Chinese Martial Arts refer to as Mo-Wai. It is a common concept that ALL Martial Artists aspire to achieve. Jeet Kune, or intercepting fist is also a concept. Intercepting not the technique, but the intention of the attack.Basically, don't stop the punch, stop the P,not even the Unch. Before the horse gets out of the gate. Again, a common concept in Traditional Chinese Martial Arts. You attack the attack, intercept the attacker, not only his physical attack, but his mental and psychological foundation. Destroy his will, do not allow for him to set, mentally or physically. These are fundamental in Chinese Martial arts, therefore, Jeet Kune Do is considered to be a Chinese art, whether or not you want to debate the country of origin, it is what Bruce Lee considered it, so your point is moot. (No offense)
