Home Country: | Jeet Kune Do effectiveness I don't know all that much about jeet kune do but i do understand basically it's a bit of this a bit of that. Theoretically that seems like a good thing however i see problems with it. Including many styles has the benefit of teaching all the positives of those styles but if a person isnt educated to know what are the negatives of these styles thats dangerous as well. Also a few months of this and then move on to something else never teaches you to gain the full benefit of either style.
Bare in mind this isnt an attack, this is a question, i want to ask jeet kune do practitioners about there training and what they learn etc. |

Home Country: | Although I do agree that Jeet Kune Do gives the outward appearance of "some of this and some of that" the danger you point out is the same danger that Bruce Lee points out. Having a set style gives you strengths and weaknesses. The second most quoted person here, Sun Tsu, said that one who knows himself and his opponent would be the victor of a hundred battles. Bruce Lee goes beyond that and encourages people to be like water. When water is poured into a container it becomes that container. By being in this constant state of flux, you develop no clear cut (and thus exploitable) weaknesses. If you want more information about this look up other threads on this forum or get The Tao of Jeet June Do by Bruce Lee (ISBN: 0-89750-048-2).
Also, if I'm not mistaken, Disgruntled has studied some Jeet Kune Do, even if only from books. So he might be a good source of info too. |

Home Country: | JKD has a base and then you build on that within the principals of that base. WC,fencing and western boxing make up jkd and it is not a compulation of # of arts
and the effectiveness of it all depends on the individual not the art!

Home Country: | Bruce Lee also pointed out that one needs a solid foundation to have the knowledge and experience to be able to differentiate between what is useful and what is not. Too many people sy they are JKD, but don't have the experience to know what that is. |

Home Country: | No offense to anyone who posted here, but the first two posts here were over a year old and is very out of date
For instance, I refered to Disgruntled as 'he'. We later found out she is a 'she'. She also quit the forum quite a while ago... |
