I have to agree with Dancing dragon because Jeet Kune Do has a Cantonese name right? so therefore I think that's why people say it is. I really think there's a major mistake right there. They said it's a "Chinese Style" which is exactly what bruce didn't want. So therefore i think whoever names it as a chinese way or Japanese way, will do disrespect to Bruce, and what his "Philosophy" stood for

I think it's both. From what I understand, and I may be wrong, is that styles are the understanding of the roots which the style came from (country, people, etc) and that JKD was not a style, but just a name for Bruce's own expression of himself, not of where he was from or anything like that

I'm not sure. I do know that it was the base of JKD for him, but I don't know if it is why he came up with Jeet Kune Do, but I have a great feeling that Gung Fu wasn't why he created it.
P.s I don't know if anybody gets the impression of this, but I don't want to sound like I think I know everything, or that I know all about JKD. I am just sharing my opinion, so please don't take any of my responces the wrong way.

Yeah, that's right. I remember now (you'd think i'd remember after devoting myself to the Philosophy of JKD) He thought that wing chun had too many fixed positions and stuff like that, and also he said he was out of shape (physical prowless another big part of JKD) right?

From what I remember, Bruce Lee did start his martial arts training in Wing Chun from Yip Man. He felt the traditional Kung Fu had some limitations he did not like. He was open to other forms of fighting - boxing (Ali), Tae Kwon Do (Jhoon Rhee), etc. He decided to start his own style that did not have any limitations.
Still, you can argue that most of his basis came from Wing Chun and why more people would categorize it as Chinese martial arts than American or any other martial arts.
I remember reading from one of the older thread that Bruce Lee probably didn't want his martial arts categorized in anyway - either Chinese or American.
