This day, November 27, 1940, a male infant, was born in San Francisco, California. He was born in the "Hour of the Dragon", between 6-8 a.m., in the "Year of the Dragon" according to the Chinese zodiac calendar, at the Chinese Hospital in San Francisco’s Chinatown in the United States. His father, Lee Hoi-Chuen was Chinese. His Catholic mother, Grace was of Chinese and German ancestry. Although he had many names like; Li Xiaolong, Leih Siuluhng, his birth name was Lee Jun-Fan. At his birth, he additionally was given the English name of "Bruce" by a Dr. Mary Glover. Though Mrs. Lee had not initially planned on an English name for the child, she deemed it appropriate and would concur with Dr. Glover's addition. Thus, famous name renown throughout the "Martial Art World" -Bruce Lee
Though it is not truly a "Happy" Birthday, this person had turned the "Martial Art World" upside down and got respect not only for Chinese, but other Asians.

Very good date for all martial artists to remember. Whether you agree with Bruce Lee's theories on martial arts or not, you have to admit that the man had an incredible impact on the worldwide view of MA.

Yes, sure, the only action heroes we had back then were James Bond and Batman. Though the Green Hornet "spotlighted" Bruce, mainly for the Asian audience.

Kato/Bruce was my inspiration. I was nearing my teens when he was alive. I remember the day of his death (as well as Brandon's)

To this day I still miss Bruce Lee. Back in the day he brought the martial arts out of the dark into the light. Too bad he had to die so young. There is an old saying that only the good die young. Bruce was one of the good guys.
Thanks,
Sensei Tom
